Today was fieldtrip #2 with our mom's group. We adventured out, in the 72 degree weather, into DC to the Museum of the American Indian. I believe the newest of the Smithsonian Museums. The building itself is made of beautiful stone blocks and has no right angles. Very curvey, very organic. Anyway the inside was just as beautiful! The atrium space and exhibits were designed like art. I loved it! ( I dont know if you know this but at one point I was contemplating getting into museum exhibit design.) As far as the artifacts go, very interesting and a wonderful collection from all over. But they really took up a very small portion of the building itself. We all commented on how large the building was for such a small collection. Room for growth? They also have a very interesting cafeteria. Many different foods from many different regions. I had a chicken tamale w/ peanut sauce, zucchini/yellow squash ceviche, a sample of cold wild rice watercress salad, pumpkin cookie and fried flat bread. The food was really Yum.
Caelan and I are getting the opportunity to see the places I was hoping to take him, we really are having a lot of fun with our new friends in the mom's group.
We all agreed today as we were riding home on the Metro, we shall do this again next week!
